Welcome to
Warleigh Barton

A hidden gem on the river Tavy.

Warleigh Barton is a 480-acre arable and livestock farm that’s focused on transitioning to a regenerative future. For 30 years, it’s been owned and run by one family, who consciously care for the land and the wider community.

The farm is nestled in the heart of the Tamar Valley Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in Devon. It’s a biodiverse and species-rich wildlife haven, and on the edge of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) visitors come to for rest and recuperation, rare sightings and to reconnect with nature.

We believe that growing healthy food and protecting the environment go hand in hand and we are on a journey to improving this balance year on year.

By visiting our farm, you’re not only immersing yourself in nature and hopefully learning some more about food production and biodiversity, you’re supporting a family-run business that is truly dedicated to farming and working the land in harmony with nature. Not only that, but you’re joining the wider movement towards a regenerative future that cares for people and the planet.

Stay with us, learn with us and join us on our vital journey towards a greener future.

Our Story

Warleigh Barton, Tamerton Foliot, Devon

Warleigh Barton is a mixed livestock and arable farm that’s owned and run by Katherine Kent and her family who are all engaged in farming, ecology and the arts.

The historic 11th century Warleigh estate has seen mankind Farming through the ages .Warleigh has been a deer park and a shooting estate, divided at points into many smaller tenanted farms growing fruit, veg and daffodils and as a whole, over recent years  growing  wheat, Barley, oats, oilseed rape, hemp, linseed, salad new potatoes as well as Miscanthus, Grass for sileage, grazing sheep and cattle.  Warleigh was also a dairy farm for many years. Its versatility and beauty makes it so special. Katherine now hopes to take Warleigh into a new era where the biodiversity is measured and enhanced alongside building a system for growing food in a sustainable way.

“This is a time to set up our farm so that future custodians can protect, respect and appreciate what gifts Nature can provide.”

Location

Warleigh Barton lies in the Tamar Valley AONB, defined and shaped by three rivers – the Tamar, the Tavy and the Lynher. It’s this close proximity to water that encourages such a diverse range of wildlife – and of course it’s extremely beautiful, too.

Sandwiched between the Tavy Estuary, Tamerton Creek, Tamerton Foliot and the Maristow estate, Warleigh Barton occupies a truly unique and inspiring location.

It’s so peaceful and tranquil that you’d never know that the port city of Plymouth is just a 15-minute drive away and is the perfect gateway to access the wider West Country. Enduringly popular with tourists, Devon and Cornwall boast a wide range of historic landmarks, beautiful beaches and National Trust properties (e.g. Saltram, Buckland Abbey and Castle Drogo). For those that seek solitude or are keen hikers, Dartmoor’s rugged and wild terrain and the ‘Tamar Valley Trail’ are both just a stone’s throw away.

Testimonials

Stunningly beautiful surroundings and a gorgeous quirky and spotlessly clean Annexe.

The farm was perfect for our stay near Plymouth, close enough to drive in to Plymouth but an excellent retreat to just unwind and relax, the hot tub in the evening was a real treat.

Honestly the perfect place to stay with a proper classic farm life vibe but with everything you’d need. Such a quiet place, set on a lovely manner, and the location is prime, able to sit in the hot tub and look up at the clear night sky to the stars was just amazing. The Devon views easily accessible, but with everything you’d need from Plymouth right around the corner as well.
